We're Home!

Well, tonight will be our second night in our home in Busi. Last night we pretty much just we're here long enough to sleep. We ate PB&J for breakfast (which tasted SO good) then had to rush out to meet with the political officials of Busi and also meet with the head of the school the team will be teaching at.

We were home for about an our or so and then had to leave again for lunch at Peter and Ruthi's. The children swarmed our house and wanted to see Thailie. After awhile Thai was overwhelmed and didn't want to play or talk to the kids. So I decided to help her interact and we sang all kinds of silly songs, did the hokey pokey, head shoulders knees and toes, etc. It was good they all got a kick out of it and it helped Thai interact a bit.

After lunch we just wanted to settle in and get our house in order. Mat and I spent the rest of the day sweeping, mopping and cleaning out ant structures. The kids were everywhere again. This time we kept Thai in the house because we didn't want it to be as overwhelming. She played with Amina (ah-mean-uh) at Peter and Ruthi's which was good. She was actually using Kilangi with her asking her what things were. It was great for her, I was really happy.

Oh, also when we got home, amidst the swarm that greeted us, there was a boy who caught a monkey! He had him by the tail and the monkey was clearly wounded. But I got to pet it which was kinda cool! (probably not all that sanitary though!) We eventually found out that the boy wanted to sell it to us so that we could eat it! Yikes! It was cool to know that there are monkeys in this area though.

While we cleaned the kids were at every window calling for Thailie, Nia or even "Mama Thialie" (me). It was quite an experience and we just had to ignore them and keep working. Something we learned, was the reality of theft. I had set some bread in the window so that the sun would hopefully inhibit mold growth. Well, about an hour later Mat asked me where I set the bread. I told him the window and he replied, "Yeah, that's what I thought." I went into the kitchen to find nothing but breadcrumbs and a bent screen. They had peeled back the screen to steal the bread! It was kind of an eye opener. They also kept shutting off our water every time I used it. So it's interesting...

Towards the end though, Thai asked if she could go outside because the kids were calling for her, so we let her.

It's weird to be here... Weird that it is home. I look forward to seeing what God has for us and am excited to make this into a home. Yet there are also times that we both think, "Two and a half years?! What have we gotten ourselves into!" But it's all by God's plans and purposes so we are where we should be! He knows what's best for us and I look forward to seeing what that looks like.

Once we were done cleaning I made spaghetti but the sauce was pizza sauce so I added two drops of oregano oil in hopes to make it more "spaghetti" like. It didn't work, the oil was really strong and it really didn't taste very good at all! The girls liked it though which was good! Then we finished the night by giving the girls their first bath in the kiddie pool. Nia was so tired she just cried and didn't want to have anything to do with it. Thai loved it though and played until she was shivering from being so cold once her water cooled.

We look forward to unpacking tomorrow and spending the whole day at home for the first time!

Karibu - Welcome!

ABOUT ME

I am a full time house wife and mother of two completely different little girls - Thailie "the princess" and Nia "the tornado". Our family has made it our aim to glorify God in all that we do. We desire to put the gospel on display in our interactions with each other and those we come in contact with.

Currently we are serving in Tanzania, Africa working among an unreached people group. In order to share the gospel we must first learn the language and the culture building meaningful relationships with those around us. We have adopted a simpler lifestyle and my husband will be working as a volunteer teacher all with the aim to make Christ known.

The purpose of this blog is mainly to keep family and friends updated on all that we are up to, but I will occasionally share some of my ponderings and burdens as well.
